The client approached me to develop a 3-minute animated image video with a compelling story. They had no predefined brief. The goal was to encapsulate the values, services, and 30-year legacy of the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta. They provided raw data, including photos and documents, but I was responsible for structuring the narrative and crafting a visually engaging animation that would effectively tell their story.
A major challenge in this project was handling a huge amount of data from three decades of the Magyar Máltai Szeretetszolgálat’s work. I got a mix of documents, photos, and raw information. It covered institutions, events, locations, and key milestones. I began by making a detailed mind map. This helped me understand everything and spot the best visual storytelling chances. This also helped me shape the story. Started to find the best ways to showcase their past 30 years.
To simplify data processing, I created custom maps and various adaptable solutions tailored to the project’s needs. This helped me create a more effective visual representation and also improved communication with the client.
To map out the storytelling structure, I created story cards and physically arranged them, experimenting with different narratives. This approach helped me capture the most meaningful milestones of the Magyar Máltai Szeretetszolgálat’s 30-year history while maintaining flexibility to adjust based on client feedback.
I designed multiple styleframes, exploring different dimensions, artistic directions, and color schemes, all aligned with the Magyar Máltai Szeretetszolgálat’s brand and story. Each variation offered a unique visual feel, providing the client with flexible options to match their vision
As this was my first major project in 2020, I pushed myself to deliver the best possible image animation. To ensure the perfect fit, I provided multiple color scheme variations, allowing the client to choose the one that best aligned with their vision.
Once the style and artistic direction were finalized, I developed the storyboard, mapping out all the key scenes.
I designed over 20 illustrations with animation and production in mind, ensuring they were optimized for character rigs, seamless transitions, and morphing effects.
To ensure lifelike movement in my animations, I conducted motion tests using real-life references. Collaborating with my wife, we acted out some key scenes to capture natural dynamics, weight shifts, and timing. This hands-on approach helped refine character motions, making them feel more grounded and authentic in the final animation.
